European coach achieves a rare milestone in Vietnamese football

Coach Velizar Popov has reached 100 matches in Vietnam during his tenure with two clubs, Thanh Hóa and Viettel.

In Round 15 of the V-League, Thể Công Viettel excellently defeated the home team Becamex TP HCM with a score of 3-1, thereby officially rising to the second position on the standings. Even the army-clad team is a strong contender for the championship, being only 4 points behind the leader CAHN but having played one more match.

For head coach Velizar Popov, this match also holds special significance for him. The Bulgarian strategist has officially reached the milestone of 100 matches in Vietnam. Coach Velizar Popov is one of the few foreign strategists to achieve 100 matches, with two clubs, Thanh Hóa and Viettel.

Additionally, this is also Viettel's third consecutive victory and the 24th consecutive match in which the team has scored. This will be a memorable milestone for Coach Velizar Popov, and this European strategist is aiming for his first title with Thể Công Viettel Club. Previously, all three of his titles were with Thanh Hóa Club, including two National Cups and one National Super Cup.

Sharing on his personal page, Coach Velizar Popov spoke about the milestone of 100 official matches in Vietnam: "I am extremely proud of another fantastic milestone in my coaching career - 100 official matches in Vietnamese football, an achievement backed by three trophies and many wonderful moments. Not many foreign coaches can survive in Vietnamese football and become one of the most successful ones, which truly makes me very proud!!!

In his 100th match in Vietnam, Coach Velizar Popov also appeared quite restrained, though there were several times he was dissatisfied with the referee's decisions. Previously, the Bulgarian strategist frequently received yellow cards due to his rather fiery temperament.
