Kennard: Getting the Most Open Shooting Opportunities in Career with Lakers, Can Hit 85 Three-Pointers in a Row During Training

On March 10 Beijing time, the Lakers held training to prepare for tomorrow's match against the Timberwolves. After the session, Kennard met with reporters. This season, Kennard's three-point percentage stands at 50%, placing him first in the NBA official rankings.

When talking about the three-point chances he has gotten after joining the Lakers, Kennard stated, "I believe I've received some of the most wide-open shots throughout this season and my entire career, which allows you to get into rhythm. Getting a completely open opportunity early in the game, even if it doesn't go in, makes you feel good and helps you find your rhythm. That has been very beneficial for me."

Kennard also mentioned that if opponents start overreacting, their defensive focus on others diminishes, giving teammates more space to do what they excel at, such as driving into the paint for scores or delivering alley‑oop passes. If they force Kennard away from the three‑point line, he believes he can cut inside and create disruption.

Kennard also told reporters that when he is in good form, he can nearly hit 85 consecutive three‑pointers during training, but he has never reached 100 in a row, which remains his goal.

Additionally, only six players in NBA history have ever achieved a single‑season three‑point percentage of at least 50%. They are Kyle Korver, Steve Kerr, Tim Legler, Jon Sundvold, Jason Kapono, and Detlef Schrempf. Kennard currently has a 50% three‑point rate with 18 games left this season (his 2022‑23 season percentage was 49.4%). Will he become the seventh player in history?

"Honestly, that would be really cool," Kennard said. "But for me, I think I don't need to focus on percentages or such things. I just want to increase my shot attempts. I believe the more I shoot, my stats will eventually stabilize at a consistent level; my averages have always been like that. If it ends up reaching (50%), that would be truly cool. Meanwhile, I'm just trying to boost my attempts, stay aggressive in that aspect, and let things unfold naturally."
